Opportunity International’s Digital Innovation Group (DIG) exists to help provide digital innovations that support the financial stability of smallholder farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises. Digital innovations are transforming every industry and service delivery model - and by using digital solutions at scale and at low- cost, always accompanied by training and support, we can enable people living in rural areas to transform their lives and the lives of future generations.
Our Digital Innovation Group will:

Opportunity's DIG supports farmers by:
- Enhancing our digitization of savings group program to allow for faster loan-approvals and efficient group management.
- Trialing OI's Ulangizi application: an AI ChatGPT tool that farmers can use to answer questions about specific farming practices. This application allows more timely access to critical information in an easy-to-use interface that lowers the learning curve for smallholder farmers. Ulangizi offers advice by working through What'sApp and pulling data from ChatGPT and the Malawian government's agricultural manual to answer farmers' questions about their crops and animals.
- Increasing the mobile phone fund to help smallholder farmers have more access to financial resources that live on a smart phone, thu sincreasing participation in local economies, especially for women.
