The Impact
Farmers choose to work with Opportunity AgFinance to increase their farms' production and income, create new sustainable opportunities for themselves, and develop resilient and flourishing households in rural communities.
What We Measure
To ensure that Opportunity’s AgFinance program is successfully supporting and enabling smallholder farmers to grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods and family stability, we are committed to measuring our impact.
By utilizing mixed research methods, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches, we can better understand farmers and their livelihoods, helping us shape targeted interventions and identify positive socioeconomic impacts.
Our data collection methods, including annual surveys, phone surveys, focus group discussions, client journey mapping, and key informant interviews, capture changes in clients' outcomes resulting from engagement with Opportunity support. These techniques also assess client perceptions and satisfaction, enabling us to design relevant interventions and enhance support based on feedback.
Opportunity utilizes portfolio-wide, statistically significant client impact baseline surveys to fill gaps identified in our program and collaborate longitudinally with our clients. These surveys provide deeper insights at both quantitative and qualitative levels and calibrate how our Farmer Support Agents collect data.
We also use farmer profile data to develop appropriate products and services and ensure relevant Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and financial literacy training. To develop these farmer profiles, we employ a combination of phone surveys, in-person interviews, and journey-mapping exercises. These metrics help track changes over time and map initiatives to current needs and the successes of the farmers with whom we work.
